Which one do you prefer?

This is such a good question and one I think many of us ask ourselves when we hear of a book being made into a Movie or TV adaption, but like you I'm sure we still watch them all.

Personally, I'm always a little hesitant to watch a book to movie adaption as my fear is that they miss a good proportion of the book and therefore a big chunk of story line, take Fifty Shades of Grey by E.L. James for example. I am a lover of the books and how it brought awareness to the dark side of romance books but when it was announced that the books were being adapted for the movie screen I was a little worried that the screenwriters, directors and actors wouldn't be able to bring the characters to life.

Now don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the films for what they were, just like the books bought awareness to 'non vanilla relationships', the movies pushed boundaries for what was acceptable in terms of nudity and sex on screens. For me the movies lacked the connection that I found with the books and I think that I was down to the missing interactions we got from the characters, which I find to be one of the key factors we deal with movie adaptions.

So, for me the films lacked the atmosphere that I envisioned when I read the books.

With that being said, I watched The Hating Game by Sally Thorne on Amazon Prime this weekend and I throughly enjoyed the storyline but I do have to admit I have yet to read Sally’s book so I an wondering that due to me being open minded and unaware of the missing storyline/interactions between the main characters I was able to enjoy the movie for what they portrayed.

So maybe the question should be watch any movie before reading the book?

Let’s talk about TV series, I love TV series as they are spread over a longer period of time so you usually find that more details from the books are often incorporated or adapted for our viewing.

I recently fell in love with A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness so when I found out the three book series was being adapted for TV I was so excited.

After watching all three seasons on Sky I was impressed with the attention of detail the director’s and producers took to tell the tale of the forbidden love between a witch and a vampire. I found that all the key factors from the books where shown and the romantic stories between our main characters and even the side characters where beautifully written and played.

Overall, for me I tend to favour books and while I will watch most adaptations or TV series I will no doubt favour the books.

What are your thoughts?
